The art is nice. I like the character designs. As for this issue's story itself, I'm just not into it. It's okay for what it is, but personally I just didn't find the execution that interesting. Also, the fact they do what they do without knowing why they do it but do it anyway and tell people it's best not to question it just isn't for me. I like characters to have motivations and logical reasonings and just the fact that they did it in the past isn't a good enough reason for me to get invested...
This is a mixed bag. The good parts are the artwork. Very vivid and bold. Works great for this type of graphic novel. The concept is cool. The beginning is dramatic, action packed, and gives you a strong female to root for. At first I'm thinking 5 star rating and I have a new author to love, but then things just sort of derail. What was so awesome becomes redundant and far fetched. The characters start making less than smart decisions and there isn't enough world building. Things are just happen...
The artstyle is wonderful although some panels seem a bit cluttered. I really like this idea and am curious to see where things go from here. I was a bit confused and just what was happening in story and why characters made certain decisions. I had to read this again to get a bit of clarification but small things still confuse me. Overall I’m excited to see what’s next and hopefully my questions get answered as I read more of this series.
so much of it was too confusing for me to keep track of. couldn't get properly invested in the story because i was too busy trying to make sense of it.
I'm not 100% sure what to say about Welcome Back. I'm left with more questions than answers, but I'm moderately sure that was the intention. The idea of a nevereding war outside of time is a wonderful premise, but the refusal to give us any idea what each side stood for and why they were fighting made me really frustrated. I had a hard time connecting and sympathizing with the characters when I wasn't sure what their motivations were. The world building was decent and it was nice to see that the...
I'm fairly new to the comic world (I tend to pick up a graphic novel), so it's interesting and annoying that it's so short! The plot twist that pulled together the two story lines is intriguing, albeit a little confusing execution-wise. I, however, love the character-designs for both Mali and Tessa. It's very bold, just like the cover--which drew me to pick up this issue (it was only a dollar too!)Will I continue? Perhaps if I saw the next issues for cheap, sure. For now? Not really.
Welcome Back is something that even though I knew the general concept behind it, I was surprised and intrigued. While it takes place in our world, the world-building of the secret, underground world is an amazing feat for the medium and for so few issues that I've read so far. It seems that every frame is full of goodies, from references to metal bands and culture to the feeling of suspicion as so many people in the backgrounds are secretly involved. I look forward to reading more and I apprecia...
Really great story line, and the art is amazing. I found a couple of pages hard to follow due to the layout of the panels, and sometimes the expositional nature of the novel can get a bit tedious, but overall a really run read.
That twist though! I did struggle with the internal dialogue of the first volume because it wasn’t always clear to me who was speaking. And the artwork / illustration changes later in the volume. I really like the illustrations that we started with.
Reincarnated Assassins, a Love Story, and a lot of questionsA never-ending battle between good and evil is taking place, and the soldiers of each side don't really die, they simply reincarnate and do it all over again. Mali, a young woman trying to escape her brutal past discovers she is one of those soldiers, and has been in an endless circle of love and violence with another soldier named Tessa. The novel follows Tessa as she tries to locate Mali, and Mali, who is forcefully awakened to this n...
I really loved this story! I loved the drawings and the plot itself. It's been a long time since I haven't read a graphic novel and I wasn't disappointed with this one! There's also a lot of diversity and I'm not going to complain about that haha. I was lost at some parts but otherwise I'm really interested in what's going to happen next.
This one's kind of crazy, and the writing is organized in a confusing way, but I love the premise and so far it's pretty cool. Lots of potential. It's a four-issue series with a lot to work out before the end, but I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully, the dialogue doesn't jump around so much in the later issues. The art's pretty good, too!
I loved this book a lot! I picked up up by chance at some random comic store and thought it was really good! The story is very interesting and a cool take on reincarnation. I wish they had kept the original art and didn’t switch artists partway through, the second artist isn’t bad but I really enjoyed the first one. The style added to the appeal and it was kind of hard to adjust to a new, pretty different, art style.
I’m going to be honest here and say I made it 75% of the way through. I was just having too much trouble keeping up with the narrative and retaining interest in what was happening.
Enjoyable action romp with enough mystery to take the reader along, though I found the promise of the premise more enticing than the payoff. The ending made the story seem too derivative, though I suppose that that might have been intentional given the obvious theme of history repeating itself/being stuck in samsara. It's a little bit Highlander crossed with a spy story done in intentionally hipster/Bratz doll styling (mostly in a good way). I personally found the art/layouts/lettering to be a l...
The art is so so beautiful, and the plot is a bit confusing but it resolves itself over time.
I was given a copy of this graphic novel by the publisher on Netgalley but all feelings and opinions are my own.I found this graphic novel while searching Netgalley and what appealed to me was the lesbians, I'm not going to lie. I always look for good queer literature and I also love graphic novels so I was really ready for this. But it took so long to get to the lesbians, I wasn't sure it was going to happen or at least not in this volume. The plot set up takes up most of the volume, and while

We(l)come Back, Vol. 1 by Christopher Sebela, et. al. is a free NetGalley e-comicbook that I read in mid-May.Mali is an awake Sequel, a killer reincarnate with semi-full knowledge of her previous lives and kills, tries to manage being herself in this life - daughter to Sequel serial killer, a best friend to her doting roommate Shena, and dogmom to the ultra-protective Showtime. With the conflicts meandering through time and in & out of Kansas City, Mali takes down her fellow Sequels, muttering r...
Interesting concept, but difficult to follow multiple perspectives. The writing style also takes itself a bit more seriously than I am used to in comics, which read as a little cheesey for me. Curious enough to know what happens in the end, but I'm not necessarily itching for the next volume ASAP.
