The highlight of the book besides stunning photographs are the two essays: One by Quentin Bajac on photography as a tool for documentation and the second by Sarah Meister on how magazines , exhibitions and publishing have helped and shaped photography over the years.
The more modern conceptual stuff isn’t my bag. Some of these exhibits were lots of photographs out together on a wall, which are extremely hard to appreciate in a book layout.
Does what its title says: a good overview of the MoMA's photography department, from its origins up until today. Reproductions are ok, some essays are quite useful.
one day a book made to be sold in a gift shop won’t let us down. some of the essays are quite good but frequently they just feel so... requisite and labored.
