I got this through the Greg Jones Street. It was the first story I tried through the app, and wow.The narrative is simple enough, which is often the case in short fiction: two brothers on a far-flung colony, New Greenland, sneak out at night to watch the Icewhales breech the methane ocean for a breath. They are the newest kids to the colony, and they go with a group of other children, and the main narrator of the tale, Fletcher, is trying very hard not to feel overshadowed by his younger brother...
I'm being a bit more intense about tabling stories for later that don't hook me right away. I'm trying to get through all the 2015 Clarkesworlds before 31 March 2016 (for Hugo nominations.) Eep!Nominating cover artist Shichigoro-Shingo for Hugo Best Professional Artist"Summer at Grandma's House" by Jingfang Hao (translated by Carmen Yiling Yan) - 5 starsI'm considering this one for one of my remaining Hugo nominations for Best Short Story. The Grandma in this story is absolutely magic, and I don...

Jeepers that was sad. Nothing can be more horrific than how we treat our family.
... and 'sunless worlds' is my favourite non-fiction article I had read so far because it stretches the imagination into the cold depths of our universe..

"And If the Body Were Not the Soul" by A.C. Wise **** - Excellent. I had some trouble visualizing the alien, which is always off-putting to me, but I am glad I persevered. I didn't realise the protagonist was autisitic, as some commenters indicated. I thought rather that she was asexual. In any case the issue was not only approached with great originality but also with great sensitivity (in my opinion). I was glad to see that a commenter who said he/she was autisitic too, also liked the way it h...
So far only read:~ Ice by Rich Larson - 2*A classic story of sibling rivalry set in a futuristic unique background. I did have a hard time coming along with the "background story". Listening on a podcast could of been some of the blame. I must of spaced out at the segue between smoking drugs and getting on the "ice". Oh and the younger brother has modifications, that is not very classic but their feelings are and that is what I was referring to.---------------If you have access to Netflix there
Some good stories, some bad ones.
An entertaining mix of stories, though nothing in the nonfiction particularly sparked my interest. Toward the end of the issue a theme started to emerge about the dangers of privilege, but the stories all had their own voice and unique characters.
That was sad - and absolutely fantastic. I'd love to see something longer set in this world of ice whales in a methane sea. The setting just sprang to life straight away and sucked me right in.
So I just discovered short stories, and I feel like Columbus must have when running into America; he was all, "this place is blowing my MIND!!" And the aboriginals were like, "ya, we know! Right?!"Basically I feel a little silly "discovering" an established literary art form that I never really knew existed and definitely didn't appreciate. It takes so much talent to wrap a reader around your little writing finger in such a short amount of time! I am officially agog. Also, short stories rock if y...
