animation is a very male-dominated environment, so you can imagine how important and cool this book is. i wish it had more information on their thought-process and about their life as a disney artist tho. mingjue helen chen is one of my favorite artists, i absolutely love her work; the section about her new interpretation of little red riding hood was great! visually stunning. i think this book is a great treat for any animation fan.
3 star read plus 1 star for the gorgeous artwork. I really wish that the book had delved into what it is like being an animator at Disney or provided artwork the artist created for the Disney projects they worked on.
Gorgeous book.
Beautiful art but I wish it would have had more info on each artist
This was a really pleasant book to read. I very much enjoyed reading about what inspires each artist, and the gorgeous illustrations really inspired me to get to work on my own art. Lovely indeed!
I actually really enjoyed this art book. Each woman has a unique look for their art style. It's adorable but very beautiful. All the ladies have a clear and distinct look, but also it's very reminiscent of all the concept art you would see in a Pixar or Disney film. Which in comparisons makes a lot of sense since all of them have worked on a project for those two companies. I love their style and Brittney Lee is one of my favorite artists. I love her work and I have a newer and deeper respect an...
This book is LOVELY! I finally purchased it after walking by Brittany Lee's booth drooling at so, so many cons for what seems like years! I've always been a fan of hers and learning about these other beautiful artists is a real treat. I can't wait to find a piece from each of their amazing collections for my walls. <3
I loved the focus of this book and the images are amazing quality/design. It is great to look through and admire the different subjects and styles. My issue would be that it felt like a random jumble of each artist's work. I was expected something more similar to mini portfolios or something that presenting famous work. It can be boring. Like one artist had a variety of mediums and showed a story. I loved her section. Another is probably 90% paintings of dogs in the same style. What story or ins...
5 Stars. The art is so stunning and inspirational! I am so happy I was a Kickstarter supporter for this project. Just, have a look through this book - every image is enchanting.
This beautiful art book contains artwork from six amazing female Disney artists in the animation industry who have shaped the look and feel of many of our favorite movies. Each artist has their own section dedicated to their personal work, as well information on what inspires them.
Gorgeous artwork, and I especially love Brittney Lee's text.I was not only off-put by the fact that the introductions were written by men, but also surprised by how vapid they were. I'd expect some sort of insight into either what it's like to be a woman in the animation industry, or how their art differs from their male peers', but I guess Lasseter and Glen Keane offer the book some star-power?
Quite the LOVELY little art collection. *wink* It was nice to read all the different snippets from the artists and to see what inspired them in and outside of work. It has, in fact, inspired me to do more personal drawings as well.
Lovely is the perfect descriptor for this book! All of the artists that contributed do a fantastic job displaying their skills. It's just very beautifully done.
I really wish I'd known about this before the kickstarter ended, because I would've loved some prints by these artists for my wall. In fact, that's one of my biggest problems with this book: I want a bunch of their artwork as prints and I can't find it. My one actual problem with this book is its lack of unifying theme besides female artists working in animation. Some of the artists had a lot of pictures of women, which would've made a good running theme, but then Lisa Keene did exclusively pict...
Now I finally get to post about this amazing art book. Firstly I love the Mary Cassatt quote as she is a favorite of the Impressionist artists for me (even stubborn Renoir gave her props) It's enlightening to see and read throughout what inspires these lady animators. I find so much inspiration in the different mediums they utilize. From the examples shown being of Lisa Keene's painterly animal portraits, Claire Keane's light pastel touches (as well as her iPhone sketches), Brittney Lee's paperw...
4 & 1/2 stars. If you know anything about the animation industry, you may be familiar with the fact that (similar to the arts), it has a history of being a very male-dominated profession. Based on a joint exhibit at Arludik gallery organized by Jean Jacques and Dianne Laurier, Lovely: Ladies of Animation highlights the work of six contemporary female visual-development artists working at Disney and/or Pixar's animation studios:Lorelay Bové - Featuring "work outside of work," art/sketches based on...
This is an awesome little art books that displays some of the other works that these 6 famous Disney artists have worked on. It had awesome little descriptions and reasoning behind their work. A must read for the creative types and Disney fans.
Nice little sample of work from six different Disney artists with small descriptions touching on each artist's motivation.

GORGEOUS art from some brilliant animators. This one sits on my "art book" shelf with pride. It's inspiring, and I can see myself using it for reference from time to time as well as just flipping through again.Looking forward to more work from all of these ladies!
