Beautiful watercolor-esque art. Really, gorgeous. Almost makes me want to read the next issue, but the story is so generic and dull. Ahhhhh. Entertain me, godammit, you're a comic. This is the one unforgivable sin of comics - dullness.
Natasha Romanov may be the last Avenger from the movie cast to get her own book in Marvel NOW! but the first issue of her new series certainly does not disappoint.Black Widow may just be the character Phil Noto was born to draw and color on the print and digital comic page. The art is just gorgeous. The first issue is all about her, no Avenger team mate guest star to steal her thunder which is the way it is supposed to be. This book is all about the Widow clearing the "red in her ledger", if you
How many of you are aware that Natasha Romanoff/Romanova first appeared in marvel Comics in 1964 in Tales of Suspense? Since then she has developed and changed. Now most know her from the Movie Universe and as someone who bears an amazing resemblance to Scarlett Johansson. Here you're going to get some of our heroine's (or hero's I see the feminine of dome words are falling out of use of late) history. It's a good "read" with good art. I'd been meaning to pick some of thees up as I stopped follow...
If you know my name… then you should know I don’t play by anyone’s rules. I wanna be her. This was amazing. I loved both writing and art. Since I've never read anything about Avengers, I didn't know what to expect. But holy cow!, Natasha Romanov is awesome! Such a badass character is definetly my type of girl.
Black Widow in a spy thriller comic is the series she's meant to be in. Part James Bond, part Mission Impossible, Nathan Edmondson has found a nice balance in this comic for Natasha Romanov to shine. Great art from Phil Noto too. Read the full review here!
I'm not actually a superhero stan. I'm more of a "cool art, cool story" graphic novel reader, and if it happens to be a bit superheroey (see The Boys, or Lazarus, Red Son ), all the better - but the whole spandex crimefighting / endless plotlines thing isn'y really my thing, per se. Especially lady heroes. The ones with the big bewbs. Honestly, the bewby tight spandex thing riles me, not just for feminist reasons (let's not get into that right now), but any vaguely active woman who fights people...
Pictures are stunning. Plot is a bit predictable though. It was fun enough. It's nice to see Widow getting some love. It does raise questions about the Avengers though.
Read this for the art alone. Phil Noto is incredible, and this book is a masterclass in how comic art can make or break a story. From the color palette to the evocative sketch lines that make it into the final inking, every panel is thoughtfully composed and precisely executed.
¡Estuvo increíble! If you know my name… then you should know I don’t play by anyone’s rules.
I know that this has gotten rave reviews but it just wasn't my preference. People are lauding over it because, 'it's not even like a superhero comic' but maybe that's my biggest problem with it. I found that despite the brevity of the 'story' I was bored. It is less a backstory/origin issue as it is an introduction but I felt I learned little about Black Widow that I didn't already know. Her character just seemed flat to me and there wasn't much of a plot setup other than, guess what...she's goi...
The first book of 2015 is....Totally a comic. However, it's a totally awesome comic. Black Widow is atoning for her past and killing totally bad dudes while being a totally rad lady. She's not going to tell us who she was or where she came from, but honestly if I get to watch an awesome woman beat the shit out of bad guys, I'm okay with that. Curious, but ok.
BADASS NATASHA!!! "That's the sort of predator I am.A conflicted one,a deadly one, one alone...And you can't change my nature."
Really love this book - it's a fantastic intro issue and I've never read anything Black Widow or Avengers before except for Matt Fraction and David Aja's HAWKEYE. For a newcomer, this is super accessible, and I imagine that fans can also enjoy what's being presented here. Most of all though, I'm really in love with the art. I've already re-read this issue a couple times just to admire Phil Noto's work. Lots of beautiful, soft strokes of color and no heavy black lines to set them apart. Even if I
You can read the full review over at my blog:http://sonsofcorax.wordpress.com/2014...Just earlier this week I was listening to Kelly Thompson’s podcast with Sue from DC Women Kickin’ Ass where they talked about gender parity at Marvel and DC, both in terms of the characters and the creators. And a point was raised that Marvel has done less than DC, or that DC is currently just better with it. The podcast was released just after NYCC last year, and some of the news that came out at the time was a...
This series reminded me of Matt Fraction's "Hawkeye" in that Edmondson is portraying what the Black Widow does in her time off from the Avengers, but it lacks the humor and humanity in "Hawkeye". The dialogue is a little stiff, and the characterization was mediocre (no amount of panels will get me to believe that the Black Widow would not charge the best possible price for a job). It would also be refreshing to see Natasha interact more with people she's not trying to kill. She may be extremely
This is what I am now. And you'll never know who I was before.Tiene un gato... ♥If you know my name...Then you should know I don't play by anyone's rules
A GREAT ONE.
I really loved Noto's artwork in this graphic novel. The story was fairly good, but I'm getting really annoyed with superhero women who walk into domestic abuse situations, smack around the abuser, and then LITERALLY turn their backs, and walk away. I watched this in the "Jessica Jones" mini-series, and there was a scene here.... and both times terrified me, because the abuser is still alive, probably pissed off, and the victim is still there to try to deal with any fall-out with NO SUPERPOWERS....
a good beggining showing a lot of potential. seems like the writers were semi inspired by the latest Hawkeye stand alones operating on the premise of what these avengers do during their time off
3.5/5, but I'll definitely round-up... My first Marvel graphic novel.
