Secrets– we all have them. This book is somewhat reminiscent of Desperate Housewives in a much classier format; think not all the raunchy sex and meaningless drama. These four women who are neighbors all have a secret side to life that the other ladies aren’t privilege to, some more juicy than others, but all were exciting to read about. Kellie is just returning to work after being a stay at home mom for over a decade; she’s married with two kids and trying to juggle life outside of the domestic...
The Perfect Neighbors by Sarah Pekkanen is a 2016 Washington Square Press publication. This is one of those authors I stumbled across reading those Booklist suggestions from the library. I can’t believe I’ve never read any of Sarah Pekkanen’s novels, but now that I have, I will be adding more. The ‘municipality’ of Newport Cove is one of the safest neighborhoods in the United States. The residents have a Listserv board to share complaints, suggestions, rules, or ask for help with something, and t...
This was a pretty great read. In signature Sarah Pekkanen fashion, the characters are relatable, the storyline is engaging and it's so easy to lose yourself in both. Every once in a while, it’s nice to be reminded that appearances don’t mean anything in the scheme of things. It’s so easy to look at other people and think their lives must be perfect, but the reality is everybody struggles. And everybody keeps secrets. Like this story so blatantly points out - there is always more than meets the e...
Perhaps it was the timing of when I read this book—right after reading a powerful non-fiction about the death of a young American woman in South Africa—that affected my opinion of The Perfect Neighbors by Sarah Pekkanen. I was excited to read this novel that takes place in a small American town, one in which you wouldn’t be afraid walk alone in at 2 o’clock in the morning. In fact, Newport Cove is one of the 20 safest cities in the country. That may be the best thing I can say about this story o...
Actual footage of me whenever any of my neighbors attempts to speak to me . . . . Buuuuuuuuuuut, when it comes to books about neighborhoods????? This one had a whole bunch of ‘em and all with skeletons waiting to fall out of their closets. Kellie, the stay-at-home mom who has just obtained her real estate license and is heading back into the workforce; Susan, who is still having a hard time dealing with the fact that her ex-husband is moving on; Gigi, dealing with the delight of a pubesce...
Three and a half stars.Newport Cove is rated to be one of the top twenty safest neighbourhoods in the United States, in which to live. It also seems to be a place where people interact and care for each other. So it looks like an ideal place for Tessa, Harry and their two young children to move to. In Newport Cove Tessa meets Kellie, Gigi, and Susan. Each of these women has a secret. Of them all, Tessa’s is no doubt the biggest. But just maybe she can make a new life in this community and hopefu...
This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I am impressed. Newport Cove is the setting and the folks who live here are very happy as they are considered one of the twenty safest neighbourhoods in the United States, quite an honour they think. The story revolves around four women, Susan, Gigi, Tessa and Kellie and I grew to really care about these characters as the book progresses. What really happens at home compared to the face we put on each day to go out and see the w...
I really enjoyed this book! I listened on audible and it was so engaging it made the elliptical at the gym fun. This is the fun, I couldn't put down kind of 5 star read. It was about a perfect neighborhood with perfect families. Of course there were many secrets, lies and mistruths including infidelity, trouble with kids/teens, trust, relationships, and more. I really liked how in between the chapters the author wrote some "social media" type neighborhood posts about all sorts of funny things. I...
