The Righteousness of God

What would we say if we were asked to say in one word what is the essential concept of the Gospel, and indeed of the Biblical message as a whole? These reflections on selected passages in Paul's Epistle to the Romans suggest that the word is "righteousness". What God has done in Jesus Christ is to restore his righteous rule on earth. It is the story of how unrighteous people are reckoned righteous , and directed back into the path of right living. The goal of Christian living is nothing less than the righteousness of God himself. What this means in practice is spelt out here.
