In the deep sea sits Gus. A heart-warming story about a plucky lighthouse who gets replaced by technology. But what happens when a storm destroys all technology? This lavishly-illustrated picture book has been described as a graphic novel for children of all ages.

The Story
Gus is a lighthouse in the middle of the deep sea, he shares the island with a lighthouse keeper. Saving ships and people from the dangerous, jagged rocks off the shore is something they both are very proud of.

The Conflict
Unfortunately, with the advent of technology Gus is rendered obsolete. As a reader we feel what both characters are forced to deal with as they come to terms with being forgotten.
One night a terrible storm destroys all electronic devices. Gus is suddenly and desperately needed. Being weak and forgotten, will Gus be able to rise to the challenge and save those who have made him obsolete?

About John Carney
I have been an artist my whole life and this story is one I have been working on for a very long time. I wanted to provide an extremely high-level of detail to both the emotion and the illustrations. As Gus is a lighthouse, special focus was given on light reflection on the water and showing dramatic perspectives. Please join me on the emotional ride of - A lighthouse named GUS.
