Tehani Wessely reports that this is the darkest anthology she’s put together. Having read most if not all of her anthologies, this certainly caught my attention. On reflection having read this, I would have to agree – here we have an anthology where every single story is heart-breaking or grim or absurdly strange and wonderful, and all are incredibly read-able. A handful demand full novels set in the world using that idea or world-building, and all make me want to look for the author’s other wor...
Read for judging.
Good Collection of stories. Very interesting. Stories that stretch from supernatural to sci-fi, and alternate worlds. Well written though some can be quite dark.
Hooray! My swashbuckling novelette "The Art of Deception" was just published in this cool Australian anthology. I should note that if you look at the description of the anthology as a whole, it won't reflect - AT ALL - the tone of my story. This was an unthemed anthology, so it just turned out that most of the stories accepted were pretty dark. Mine isn't. This anthology is uneven, tedious, the stories were poorly edited. There were several where I fe...
A very strong, very dark anthology featuring some wonderfully unique voices.
Some great stories here! Standouts for me were Kathleen Jennings' "The Last Case of Detective Charlemange", DK Mok's "Almost Days" and Joanne Anderton's "2B".
This anthology of dark speculative fiction does not have the most inspiring of blurbs. But, I guess, how else does a publisher market an unthemed anthology?Do not, however, let that put you off. There are some amazing, even must read, short stories within.I have to fess up here to holding a bias for this book. I am a contributor - with 'Sins of Meals Past' - and I proofread a number of stories prior to going to print. That aside, it is an eclectic mix of speculative fiction - sci-fi, horror, and
