If You Can Get It: A Gods of Chicago Story

This is a short story of around 10,000 words, which takes place in the Gods of Chicago storyworld. If You Can Get It follows Peter Gordon, before he's earned the nickname of "Digs", as he struggles to find a place for himself in the grim and unforgiving world of Chicago City.

At fifteen years old, Pete Gordon has two problems: no money and less food. Too bad for Pete it looks like his problems are here to stay.

His ma works the badger game for The Chicago Outfit, earning chump change in the bargain. If Pete wants to eat, he has to keep their rotating digs in tip top order and otherwise stay out of sight. When it looks like he's flubbed it for his ma and endangered their standing with The Outfit, Pete finally skips out, taking his feet to the streets and determined to find a gig and digs of his own.

If he's lucky, he might get to enjoy one hot meal before the mob sends a torpedo after him.
