One of the urgent needs of the church in our day is to clarify – to give definition to – what it looks like to pass on the faith to our children. We need to ask what this means theologically, but also, rather pragmatically, to ask: How do we do it? This matters to us both as families and as the church. As families, few things connect with us so deeply as the spiritual health and well-being of our children. As the church, we need to reaffirm what the Christian community in each generation has recognized: that a prime responsibility of the church is to nurture the children of the church in the faith. It is a responsibility that is shared by all, not just by those who are parents or those with an assigned ministry for children or youth.
