Along the lines of the “Wreck this Journal” series this is a youthful and creative interactive journal for the zealous artist to further expand their minds or just as an outlet to stop them from driving their parents crazy! HA HA We purchased this as a gift to our daughter who loves art in its many forms.
This isn't really a book that you read but a journal to spark creativity. I had read about it when it first came out but I didn't buy it. Then I saw posts on Instagram by the author of ways that he filled out different activity pages of the book. It looked fun and so I bought it. I have only done a few pages, but I really think it has potential to spark ideas. I'm grateful to the author for everything he puts out in the universe.
It's probably for the sake of attracting more readers, but the word "steal" in the title is misleading.Kleon could use the word "borrow" instead; something like "The Art of Borrowing"; but oh hell no, why would he when he could easily put more excitement in the book by repeating that knowing "how" to "steal" is an "art"?... Seriously? There is no "original" work in the world. No one can claim that their fabulous work is with absolute zero inspiration. We almost always stand on the shoulders of ot...
A fun-sized book. The only reason this book isn't on your shelf should be that you lent it out or you are rereading it the nth time!
It's got great ideas. Great inspiration for stress relief or creative prompts for artistic purposes. Great for teachers. You can read the whole thing in about 5 minutes.
Love this journal. Encourages kleptomania in the best way possible.
Steal like an artist is a liberating book that gives you peace of mind when looking to copy other's works. Let's face it, almost everything you could ever think of has been done before by someone else. This book reiterates the theme of "don't reinvent the wheel" maybe... just... make it better. I love this notion because I do it all the time. Why struggle to do something that someone else has already done. Simply learn what they did and see if you can improve it. You can take my word of it or yo...
Really inspirational journal, it has to many different things that you can fill up or just blank pages that you can doodle or write something on
A fun journal that makes staying in a creative mindset throughout the day easy! It's effortless design and inspirational (not cheesy) prompt pages turned my days into a scavenger hunt. I picked it up along with the original Steal Like an Artist book; it's the perfect pair and conveniently sized to take anywhere.Don't forget to check out this journal's partner in crime...Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative
It's an amazing and an easy book that you can spend your night reading it. It's kinda of a motivation book that inspire your to do different things to go to be creative. It has many greats ideas about how you should work and move forward to creativity. Nice book I recommend to read it.
I actually did steal this book from a UPS store. I stole 'STEAL THIS BOOK' by Abbie Hoffman too, and I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend both. They're cute and helpful. Quick reads that don't really saturate or satisfy, but I guess that's why I like a cheap thrill. My favorite price so happens to be free. What, the world burns. Dance in the flames.
As a fan of Austin Kleon and as an avid journal keeper I had to admit that although, I love his philosophy this workbook was not for me. The exercises a bit too absurd. I guess the idea is to really prompt imagination but it had the opposite effect on this visual artist and writer. It's one of those things where I loved the book but not the work book. Some might love it though because this kind of thing is totally subjective. Creative imagination works differently in different people.
After reading three books written by Austin KleonI bought "The Steal Like An Artist Journal" as a Christmas gift to myself. This interactive journal is full of creative prompts and exercises, it is like a simplified version of the author's handbooks to spark creativity. I did some exercises from the book, and it helps to untangle the knots on my mind!
I want to collect (and modify) journaling prompts to use as warm-ups for my creative writing class. There are some solid prompts in here, not as many as I’d hope for, but I appreciate the little inspiration I’ve pulled from this journal :)
This is a fantastic book if you are an artist, a creative or think you are not you should read this one. It is a quick read and is great as a flip back through it sort of read. Loved it.
I love Austin Kleon’s books!!! I thought these exercises were interesting and get starters for those who have trouble starting.
The book is more like tips and tricks to be creative ! To me books should give me information more than blog posts ! rather than that the book is nice and easy to readyou can finish it in 2 days
Been using this for opening exercises with Lit Class. Lots of ready-to-use ideas and prompts -- straightforward, clever, fun.
i hope it is good
