Its subtitle, Chronicles of an American Childhood, indicate that it is not only a highly personal account of my interior life and activities growing up but also a look at the wartime, postwar and strange era of the silent fifties in America, often neglected in favor of the more vivid, electric sixties. Living in Europe gave me the distance I needed from the dynamic American society to write this book. For me America is more a place to live life, to experience it, Europe a place to observe, enjoy, understand and write about it. To my many readers who have read my astrological-personological bestsellers and viewed some of their innermost secrets revealed I now offer my own hitherto secret life for their examination and enjoyment.
