Testify!: A Collection of Monologues Bringing Acts 1-8 to Life Through Drama

Testify!: A Collection of Monologues Bringing Acts 1-8 to Life Through Drama

Dana K. White
0/5 ( ratings)
Testify is a set of nine monologues that bring the first eight chapters of Acts to life.

Each monologue is a first person account of a specific event recorded in these portions of scripture. The scripts follow the text carefully.

Each character is an unidentified person who was present at the event. This character tells what he/she saw and experienced.

All monologues are written to be performed as if the speaker is giving testimony in court. He/she speaks to the audience as someone who is testifying on a witness stand. This means eye contact with the entire audience is appropriate. Use a focal point in the back of the room as the “lawyer” who is unseen. This gives the actor a place from which to hear the unspoken questions and a person to keep coming back to.

In the original performances, actors sat on a stool within a spotlighted area and spoke into a microphone on a mic stand. Actors wore all black. Each monologue was presented immediately before the pastor spoke on the text covered within the monologue.
Many of the monologues can be performed by either a man or a woman. The list below shows how it was in the original performances. * indicates that the monologue specifically needs to be played by a man or a woman.

The Ascension – Man*
Pentecost – Woman
Fellowship of the Believers – Woman
Peter Heals the Crippled Beggar – Man*
Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin – Man*
Prayer and Praise for Peter and John – Woman
Ananias and Sapphira – Woman
Stephen’s Death – Woman
