Pioneer Tales from Cable TV History

Pioneer Tales from Cable TV History

Archer Taylor
0/5 ( ratings)
Based on transcripts from the Barco Library’s Oral and Video Histories, Pioneer Tales tells the stories of the intrepid entrepreneurs and engineers who first introduced Community Antenna Television , now known as cable TV, to the small towns and cities across the country. These pioneers tell the story in their own words how they used grit and determination to develop one of today’s most important industries.

Pioneer Tales From Cable TV History is a companion to History Between Their Ears by the same author, published in the year 2000 by The Cable Center in Denver. The first book embraces the recollections of pioneer engineers and technicians engaged primarily in developing, virtually without precedent, the technology, manufacture, and supply of the specialized equipment required for community antenna television systems, now known as Cable TV. The present volume supplements the story with recollections of some of the intrepid pioneer entrepreneurs who first introduced CATV, in small towns and cities in the United States, as a business they hope would become profitable, as it most certainly did.

The pioneer tales are more about creative financing, vigorous lobbying, and brilliant litigation strategy than about applied technology. Like the earlier book, Pioneer Tales From Cable TV History is based on transcripts of Oral History interviews conducted under the auspices of The Cable Center , now located on the campus of the University of Denver in Colorado. The stories of these pioneers are told mostly in their own words, extracted from their Oral Histories.
