Phonetic Masterpieces of Absurdity (Electric Literature's Recommended Reading Book 128) [Kindle Edition]

Phonetic Masterpieces of Absurdity (Electric Literature's Recommended Reading Book 128) [Kindle Edition]

Shelly Oria
3.6/5 ( ratings)
"Here, in 'Phonetic Masterpieces of Absurdity,' you’ll witness Shelly Oria’s scary brilliance on full display—the beauty in the brashness of the interviewer, the nuance in the guardedness of the subject. Time and space and memory have been altered ever so slightly so something otherworldly can peek through. And yet, Shelly’s work is absolutely rooted in reality, informed by authentic, empathetic, interpersonal interactions. How else could she so accurately convey the irrepressible lust for personal intimacy that haunts her characters, her stories?" - Emily Bell, Associate Editor, FSG Originals/Farrar, Straus and Giroux

About the Author: Shelly Oria was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Israel. Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, McSweeney’s, TriQuarterly, and Quarterly West, among other places, and has won a number of awards, including the Indiana Review Fiction Prize. Shelly curates the series Sweet! Actors Reading Writers in the East Village and teaches fiction at Pratt Institute, where she also codirects the Writers’ Forum.

About the Guest Editor: Launched in 2011, FSG Originals is an imprint of Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

FSG Originals are driven by voices that insist on being heard, stories that demand to be told, writers who are compelled to show us something new. They defy categorization and expectation. They are, in a word, original.
