A New Index of Middle English Verse

This is a new research tool of fundamental importance to all students of medieval English literature. The Index of Middle English Verse was originally published in 1943 in a limited edition. Although it has remained a standard research tool, the passage of time has rendered much of its content obsolete. It is now replaced by this New Index, offering a first-line listing of all surviving verse recorded between c.1150 and 1500, together with full bibliographical information for every witness and details of modern editions. This includes much material not previously accessible. In addition, it incorporates a complete index of manuscripts and a comprehensive subject index. The book will be an essential reference work for any future research in this field.
