Centuries in the future, the world has been devastated by a catastrophic event known as "The Great Purge." Only a fraction of humanity survives to fight over the severely diminished resources of the planet. The disaster also bestowed upon some people the gift of sorcery and not all of them have the best interests of their fellow man in mind.

Markus Logarr is a disgraced magi from the once prosperous city of Havenway. Determined to seek vengeance against his former master for betraying him and murdering thousands of innocent people. Markus sets out into the Desert of Despair, where he discovers Midas City and his ex-girlfriend Rosalind Hearth, another magi who blames him for the loss of her family.

The two former lovers can barely be civil towards each other, but when a group of necromancers stage an assault on Midas City, they must put aside their differences or risk losing everything all over again.
