…In the summer of 1950 I visited Neutra in California and saw a number of his works. I was so impressed by his thinking and creating that I returned to Europe with the desire to collect the work of this great contemporary in a book and bring it closer to a wide audience…
It was in the year 1927…that I saw for the first time pictures of the Health House of Neutra. We followers of the new architecture were astounded and admired this revolutionary new building which had been created in the new world…
The buildings and projects of Neutra which I have seen on my journey through the States give me the feeling of a personality without compromise. They are of a natural originality, clear and simple in their architectural form. Free and rational in their plan arrangement, all these buildings show an ideal combination of a clear f[u]nctional concept and an unadulterated subtle beauty. They are most suited to serve their users in an ideal manner. Luxury is omitted or limited to a convincing application of the latest technical accomplishments. Economy is here the result of a far reaching detailed pre-planning and prefabrication.
Neutra has the temperament and gifts of fantasy which make him the pioneer architect and fighter for a more social, a more democratic and better fused world…The present book cannot make any claim to completeness; but it permits a vista over all the manifold activities of the work Neutra has engaged in. Textual remarks which deal with buildings and projects are largely inspired by Neutra[’]s own literary works and through personal interviews
-W. Boesiger, architect
Illustrated with approximately 700 photographs, plans, and sketches. Trilingually presented in English, French, and German.
