New York: Bird's-eye Views

New York: Bird's-eye Views

Thomas Taylor
3/5 ( ratings)
New York bird's-eye view is a stunning book showing New York from the air. Stunning shots of the town taken from a unique "bird's-eye" perspective, you can see the entire island, on 19th century panoramic maps, New York City, Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten island.

From the close of the Civil War until the end of the 19th century various artists created the highly detailed Bird's-eye views. To fund their work the artists often offered subscriptions in the city and these map like scenes were the pride of the town.

The drawings for the bird's-eye view took weeks to make, two-point perspective was often used to create a three-dimensional effect.

All views in the book can be ordered as posters. It's history that you can touch.
