The next attack in the seemingly endless circle of retaliation which marks Iran's war against the United States will be the most audacious of all. It has no less a target than the president himself. And, for the crowning touch, the execution will be carried out in the Oval Office. Without nuclear weapons or the strategic missiles to deliver them, the Iranians must depend on their own people. In this case, an elite, handpicked platoon of Iranian army commandos is the attack force. No wild-eyed martyrs looking for an express ticket to paradise, these are highly-trained, dangerous men who have been honed to a razor-sharp edge by eight years of war with Iraq. While they are ready to die for their beliefs, they are in no hurry to do so. On its face, the mission is impossible. But with a lot of difficult planning and a pinch of imagination, the commandos hatch a plan which makes success seem inevitable. The road from Tehran to the White House is long and fraught with risk, yet the commandos overcome these obstacles not by lucky happenstance, but through meticulous planning and violent, rapid-fire execution. As the story reaches its shattering climax, the reader can't help but be struck by how possible these kinds of attack really are. Not only could they happen here, it's a wonder they haven't already done so.
