It was a good story but god, shorty stories are hard to love because they just keep me guessing too much. This certainly was one of those short stories where I reached the end and thought "what, that's it?!". Maybe there should be like a cheat sheet explaining all the meanings and hints for those that need everything to be explained i.e. me :(
This sounded so interesting but it was just utterly confusing. I could never tell who was talking to who and the time jumps were poorly executed. At least it was short so I didn't have to use up too much time on it.
I really liked this story at the beginning. But like Karen, I ended up seriously disappointed. I think it's actually like 2.5, since I did like the beginning, but the ending stunk like sulphur and the characters ended up contrived and caricatured. But again, look at that cover! Tor does employ some wonderful book cover artists. I am totally jealous again! This story has a totally Anita-Shreve ending, but disappointed me more than her books because I wanted to get more out of it and had much highe...
I wish I could say this was more enjoyable than it was.... I wish this were a full novel! Neal's writing style is wonderful and engaging but I needed more from you, Friends 'Til the End... you left me very unsatisfied. Like a sip of wine and then someone snatches the glass away.... give me the rest Neal!! This suffers from the issue I've always found with short stories, I just don't feel invested enough, there is no time. And I wanted more from it... because it could have been great!I hysterical...
Oh my gosh ! That was so amazing ! I want to read more about it ! And it makes me want to read My Last Kiss again ! Can't wait to read another book from Bethany Neal ! :)
“Everyone was getting nostalgic, but as sad as the idea of being separated was, it was overshadowed by our impending freedom.”Short Mystery told by the recently deceased. Has an Old South gothic feel. Never cared for her or the other three. More like an extended one-liner rather than a complete story. The cover art was the most engaging part of the story.“Let our blood run as one.”
can you say cliffhanger? Where's the rest of the story? ;)I guess that means it's a good one, right? I'm just not overly fond of the subject matter, and it felt like it needed.... more to the story. It feels like it's the teaser trailer for the book.
I mean, this story's... okay. Reads fast but it's really nothing special.
Too many incidental details without any that pertain to the "whodunit" of the plot. And then it just ends, with no answers or resolution. Is this supposed to lead into a New Adult/Young Adult horror novel, or is it a standalone work? Either way, I'm not impressed.
Great, if finished. It's a really intriguing introduction to a potential story and I really want to read that story, but as much as this deserves more than 3 stars, it's incomplete.
'Friends 'Til the End' is a short story originally published by Tor.com.This short story follows the main protagonist, Emily, and her three friends. It was an interesting read as it was written from her perspective after her death, as a ghost. The short story WAS a little spooky and it had some moralistically WRONG scenarios which I strongly didn't like.It was also creepy due to the blood bond which the four friends initiate. Call me a wuss, but that struck me as wrong on many, deep levels. The w...
i don't know if this is another one of these stories that is riffing off another work and presuming that the reader knows who these characters are and what is happening and this story is intended only to fill in the gaps of the original book, but while it starts off as a promising ghost story, it really hits a wall there at the end.it feels more like the beginning to something than a complete standalone story. there's plenty of details at the outset, and it seems to be building towards something...
It is interesting, but it just... stops. Even as a short it should have a few more pages.
Way too short.. feels like a prequel to something. Really interesting though.
Another excellent cover on a so-so story. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, particularly the blood-friendship pact at the beginning, and then Em's discovery a couple of years later. But the ending of the story was too abrupt, particularly as I wanted one or two more scenes til the end.
I liked where Friends 'Til the End was heading. The set-up to the story had promise. (Enough promise for me to round my rating up to 3 stars.) That ending, though...while the ending implies what happened, it doesn't satisfactorily wrap things up. The story just kind of stops.Short stories aren't supposed to be long (obviously), and they can have open endings. It's okay to leave enough information for the reader to draw their own conclusions about what happened. But a short story is also supposed...
Bloody waste of time. It's a half-arsed, half-written story. Not to be mistaken for an open ending, because this story just stops in the middle of nothing. This is what you call storytelling? Please.
