This book came from my need to recognize the two places I most love, North Dakota and Hawaii. Poems, stories and thoughts about my life in these two places comprise the book, and were written in one place or the other or traveling between. A few were written in the late 1960’s, most were written in the late 1970’s, and with increasing frequency, up through the 1980’s and 1990’s to the present. One of the big reasons I put this material into a book was that someone stole a computer from me several years ago. Since I had not saved the material that was in that computer many of stories and poems that were in it are forever lost to some idiot computer thief. I decided if I went ahead and put my material into a book it would be safe from being lost this way in the future.

These poems, stories and thoughts are about the events, people and things that have impacted my life over the years. Be it a simple scene of a run-down old barn on the North Dakota prairie , horses running and jumping during a North Dakota winter blizzard , my daughter’s wedding , wife Linda’s terrifying bout with cancer or the death of a friend , all are things that have impacted my life.

As you may guess, some of the events are funny, some are very sad and some describe scenes we have all witnessed. As you go over these few pages I hope the word pictures will be enjoyable to you. Many who have read these poems and stories have said they helped bring back memories of similar events and stories in the mind of the reader. I hope this book helps you rediscover events of your own life and you find this a fun book.
