SUTRA OF TRANSCENDENTAL WISDOM
The shortest of all the great Sutras and on that account was memorised by all Buddhist monks and recited as part of the daily ritual, often many times a day.

THE SUTRA OF THE FORTY-TWO SECTIONS
Was translated by two ordained Yuezhi monks, Kasyapa-Matanga and Dharmaraksha, in 67 CE. Because of its early date, it is regarded as "the First Sutra" or first formula, and is accorded a very significant status.
Translated by Samuel Beal, an Oriental scholar, and the first Englishman to translate direct from the Chinese the early records of Buddhism.
