It was the Artful Dodger who found Oliver Twist cold, hungry and homeless and took him back to Fagin’s Den of Thieves.
He was there when Oliver was arrested for pick-pocketing, taken before a judge and saved from prison by the old gentleman, Mr Brownlow.
He was there when Oliver was snatched back by Bill Sikes before he could tell the police about Fagin’s thieving gang. And there to hear that Oliver had been shot while breaking into a posh house.
In the end, Oliver was reunited with Mr Brownlow who, it turned out, was his grandfather. Fagin’s gang was broken up by the law and Fagin, Bill Sikes and his girlfriend Nancy, were all dead.
