Thoughts on the Education of Daughters (1787) by Mary Wollstonecraft (Annotated and Retold)

Mary Wollstonecraft
4/5 ( ratings)
*Modernized
*Restated, retold, clarified and simplified.
*With thoughts added from a present day perspective.

So why, exactly, do the young women in Jane Austen's novels act as they do? Perhaps they had been raised by parents following Mary Wollstonecraft's rules for raising daughters, first published when Jane was eleven years old.

Wollstonecraft would go on to write what is now considered the first declaration of women's rights--A Vindication of the Rights of Women. One of her daughters, Mary Shelley, would write one of the first science fiction novels, Frankenstein.
