The first printing of OAHSPE is refered to as the Lant Edition. It was too volumous for mass production, so reduced in size to the 1882 Edition. All the Lant Edition copies of OAHSPE were then destroyed. At a later date, printing plates were found of extra books, segments of books, portraits, and writings that were not published in the 1882 version. For many years the original Lant version was searched for but never found. It’s said, all the original plates, type writter written copy and pencil drawings were destroyed in a flash flood of the Rio Grande River in Shalem, New Mexico.
