SAMPLE POEM #1: COUGAR ALERT:
lady
you wear your heart
on your sleeve
which makes for
a very sincere
and bloody mess
you also have
all but spelled out
the grammatically
incorrect plans
you have for me
and your frankly
forward propositions would
have to be bleeped
out on prime-time TV
and I retreat
from your advances
because you scared
the smile right off my face
when you hiked up your skirt
licked your lips
and winked when I was only
asking for change
for a dollar
so that I could
feed the starving meter
where I parked.

SAMPLE POEM #2: RIMMING THE GLASS
The trees rimming the lake are layer on layer
of pastel colors, red, orange, and gold.

4PM with Anastasia was cocktail hour,
we made Bloody Cesars, lining
thin glasses with spices-
salt and paprika.

Our eyes burnt as we watched the heat
twist and contort shades of autumn
through the screened in porch.

We're speeding the boat back to the marina-
winter frost can gum up an engine and
bite into lacquer.
