Ancient Greece & Global Warming | The Benefits of a Classical Education or Learn from the Past to Live in the Present

Ancient Greece & Global Warming | The Benefits of a Classical Education or Learn from the Past to Live in the Present

Richard Seaford
0/5 ( ratings)
Richard Seaford is a professor of classics at the University of Exeter, UK. His work has transformed understanding of the roles of drama and ritual in the life of the polis, and has positioned the invention of money as a pivotal event in the formation of the psyche and of social relations.

In 2009, he was president of the Classical Association. Ancient Greece and Global Warming is a transcript of his inaugural address to the association, in which he outlines the main themes of his scholarly work, and shows how they link with political activism. He argues strongly in favour of the usefulness of a classical education for engaged citizenship, and as a form of self-defence against the pre-packaged thought-world of our consumer culture.
His ideas continue to develop and to be increasingly influential both within and beyond the world of classical scholarship.
