Jesus Chronicles

Jesus Chronicles

Janet Hickman
0/5 ( ratings)
Jesus Chronicles is a compilation of stories of Jesus and the people around him. His family, friends, the disciples, the seventy and others impacted by his life are given some time in his history. As Jesus lived, he is generally known by his centers of activity: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum and Jerusalem.
Born in Bethlehem, advance notice of his life came through the lives of many. Prophets of old foretold his coming, but most of them are not mentioned here. Only Isaiah and a few others are mentioned. Then we start with Elizabeth, Zechariah and John. Then, of course, come Mary and Joseph. But many others really should be mentioned briefly, and they do get some historical time.
Herod the Great is the great enemy of the Jews. He works to rebuild the temple, having it prepared for the coming of Jesus. Of course, he is not aware of this event.
The people around the birth have their space in history. The innkeeper and spouse, the shepherds, and, very importantly, the wise men from Persia.
Then, after finding their way back to Nazareth, the family finds neighborhood friends and relatives. Jesus has several siblings with their own places in his story.
Then Jesus resettles in Capernaum to establish his manhood and ministry. The men, women and children of northern Galilee are the stars of this space. Additionally, military people and tourists have a large stake in the proceedings.
Then Jesus begins his long trek to Jerusalem. There many new and old witnesses pick up the time slots. Pilate, Judas Iscariot, a young Herod, another carpenter, military people, the disciples and many others fill these spots of history.
Finally, with Jesus resurrected, the disciples begin to establish the new movement in a rather permanent pattern. As they do, even more newcomers pick up the pace. This has been the pattern of generation following generation to this day.
The intent of Jesus Chronicles is not to sort out where Jesus went and when. Rather, the intent is to look at Jesus' actions and words. We investigate his patterns of ministry through the stories. Only then can we know the real depth of his person and soul.
