The story of my life includes the up-close and personal decade I spent involved with my "partner-in-time", David Ruffin--the late lead singer of The Temptations. My memories include those of an abusive childhood without parental love or support, illustrating how it happened that I was already programmed into "victim" consciousness before David and I met. It made the move into an abusive relationship with him a natural extension of reality as I knew it--love was pain.

I didn't realize it at the time, but it was likely that it was our young son who got the worst of it when it came to his getting the love and attention--not to mention training--that he needed and deserved. The struggle to both please a high-maintenance David and to maintain sanity , took a huge amount of energy. Co-dependency, anyone?
