Lara Tomlinson’s beautiful, naked teenage body is found entangled in the nets of a local fisherman off the tiny fishing village of Peacehaven, and her death is quickly dismissed as a tragic accident by local police. Six months later, Lara’s father Barry, a millionaire former city financier, unable to come to terms with the death of his daughter and the absence of a satisfactory explanation, seeks help from a private investigator.
Christopher Hedley arrives in Peacehaven a pale shadow of the high flying young D.I. he once was. A breakdown, following the murder of his sergeant in a failed drugs raid which he initiated, and a subsequent rapid descent into alcoholism, has left him desperately seeking a means of redemption and a way back into a meaningful existence.
As Christopher peels back the layers of complexity and deceit that surround the case of Lara Tomlinson, he begins to reveal a chain of ugly truths that are at odds with the beautiful surroundings of the tranquil village. As the pace quickens and the action moves between London and Peacehaven, Christopher appears to get ever closer to solving the ‘accident’ of Lara’s death; but will it be enough to enable him to lay his demons to rest?
