Hell is in Paradise

Hell is in Paradise

David Weeks
0/5 ( ratings)
A harrowing true story of an English-born Bajan woman who was taken to Barbados as a young child after witnessing the man she believed to be her father brutally stabbing her mother in a violent frenzy.
Aged nine, Yvette's life was turned upside down when she discovered the harsh realities of the struggle for survival in the drug-and-violence riddled small-town life of this 'paradise' isle.
Her youthful innocence shattered at the hands of a school-friend's paedophile father; verbal, physical and sexual abuse throughout her teenage years; her rape, aged thirteen; her immersion in the drug culture and violence of Barbados and the terrifying gang rape which forced her to move back to England at the age of twenty-one.
Penniless and shunned by her family and friends, a homeless Yvette was forced to sell her body in sordid late-night encounters in order to survive; becoming embroiled in violent and dysfunctional relationships as her self-esteem plummeted.
An unhappy marriage and estrangement from her young son only worsened her drug use and feelings of depression and - several suicide attempts later - Yvette turned to counselling in order to find some stability in her turbulent, promiscuous, drug-and-alcohol fuelled life; finally finding emotionally satisfying employment and engaging in her first non-confrontational relationship.
This is a remarkable chronicle of a woman who fought desperately to find happiness and self-esteem against incredible odds. A heart-wrenching tale of human tenacity, love, passion and - ultimately - forgiveness.
