The relationship between culture management and art has changed fundamentally since its beginnings in the 1990s. From an understanding of cultural management as mere art "facilitation" - sought to affect, the autonomy of art and artists - towards active co-creation in processes of artistic creativity, its role has changed. The contributions to the Jahrbuch für Kulturmanagement 2013 concern themselves with historical, systematic, and empirical perspectives on the relationship between art and management, developing concepts for a redefinition of the relationship between cultural production and management. The paradigms or guiding principles which define the respective roles of the involved actors are examined here, situated in the context of current social and political developments.
