Synopsis

The Adventure of Roderick Random chronicles the exploits of Roderick Random, a rogue protagonist, as he makes his way around 18th-century Britain. Young Roderick, who comes from low beginnings, aspires to become wealthy and advance in society. However, he is plagued by bad luck all the time and is left at the mercy of a terrible fate and the evil deeds of people around him. Roderick has several outrageous and frequently humorous events throughout the book, including being forced into the Navy, working as a quack doctor, and falling in love with a woman who turns out to be a thief.
