*4.5 Stars*I've been searching for more female crime writers that tell the kind of dark stories that I love, and in my search I stumbled onto award-winner Hilary Davidson and thought that this collection of nine previously published tales of betrayal and murder would be a good start. The main theme in the majority of these are tales of desperate women doing bad things, things like revenge, cuckolding, plastic surgery, and other kinds of psycho shit. Richard sank to his knees. It was almos...
I liked reading these short stories of Hilary Davidson. I like her novels, so it was interesting to see where she came from (so to speak) as these stories were written primarily before her first novel was published. Some are award-winners in various venues; all are worth the read. The format of the book is ebook. What sets these stories apart for me is the delicious sense of humor that comes out in the plots, dilemmas, and results for the characters. This woman has a marvelous wicked streak in he...
The title story 'The Black Club Widow' is the best story since it has both wit and macabre in right balance. 'Stepmonster' would come next in humour. Most stories 'Insatiable', 'Anniversary', 'The Other Man' have a twist that you will later come to expect as part of writer's style. It was a surprise in 'Anniversary' but quite expected in 'The Other Man'. Characters are creepy and unhinged as is to be expected in collection of stories about murder and obsession.
I do not know of an author who can torque up my enthusiasm meter right on the page, sometimes in the middle of a sentence, the way Hilary Davidson does. Goddamn, does the lady can write or what? If you're familiar with her novels, you have to know these short stories are a different animal. You are about to enter the twisted world of Mrs. Davidson and maybe you'll live to tell the tale.Holy Shit. I have a hard time thinking which story I preferred, because it seemed like a long collection of ama...
The Black Widow Club is a collection of short stories that mostly revolve around women killing men... with a few twists! It is a nice change of pace from the normal crime fiction that I read, where men are usually the perpetrator by the time the book wraps up. I read this collection over about a week as a nice break in between long books.Hilary Davidson does an excellent job of character development in a relatively short period of time. The stories are actually pretty well linked thematically, b...
Hmmm...what to say? Normally I don’t like short stories but these were pretty twisted so they were ok. I didn’t like the lack of storyline or character development though, guess I’ll stick to the longer books, haha!
A great collection of stories with twists and turns aplenty.
No substanceA series of short stories about people killing someone. The reasons are foolish. To me it was a silly waste of time.
Murder short stories. Very fun.
Just a must!I couldn't put this down. I've never read so many enticing short stories , what a fun experience. Each story is so different. Often you can figure out the ending but getting there is so unique. Read it.
This was a very entertaining collection of stories. I just wish more were included and hopefully another collection will be out soon. I received this collection for free from the author after buying her latest book, Blood Always Tells .
