§ Sorolla was fourteen years old when began to study painting in his native Valencia, Spain.
§ At the age of twenty-two years old, Sorolla left for Rome on a four year grant to study painting.
§ In 1892, he received his first award, a gold medal at the Naitonal Exhibition in Madrid, for Another Marguerite.
§ In 1900, Sorolla won the Grand Prix and medal of honor at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and the medal of honor at the National Exhibition in Madrid for the painting, Sad Inheritance.

NOTABLE WORKS:
Walk on the Beach, Beneath the Canopy, Sad Inheritance and Gardens of the Alcazar.
