I read this as a palate cleanser. A very quick fun read between deeper longer tomes. The classic tale has an updated ending, and who's to say how much truth lies in a fairy tale.
3.5 StarsWhat a hoot! It was a cute retelling, and I actually snorted at the end. It won't change your life, but it will pass a few minutes easily.
A retelling of the classic children's tale, with a slight twist at the end. The twist was nothing terribly interesting, and it left me wondering why the author had ever bothered to write this.
I really loved The Thirteenth Tale, but this retelling of The Princess and the Pea just doesn’t really bring any new charm to the classic tale.
It was adorable. I love Diane Setterfield. The 13th Tale is one of my top 5 books. I don't know why people are complaining. Cute, quick read with a snarky twist. It was free! It's from Diane! It's like it could have been one of the 13 Tales. I loved it.
Exquisite and funny, and VERY short, with writing like this (below) it is worth the 5 minutes it will take you to read! "And the band, who had been present (just in case) at every one of these occasions, a specially composed “Anthem to Joy” open on their music stands, were taken by surprise; those who had been watching the regents found themselves a bar and a half behind those who had taken their cue from the prince. So one half of the orchestra had to toot at double speed to catch up, whilst th...
Very disappointing. Do not waste your time. I am glad I had discovered The Thirteenth Tale BEFORE I read this story.
it's a wonder she did not die of anaphylactic shock.first book i read using google play books, mainly on account of it being free off the play store.plus the fact that i can't find a similar deal elsewhere.
It really does feel like of one those thirteen tales written by Vida Winter. Much lighter than her usual style and yet entertaining. The thirteenth tale is my favourite book and I was not disappointed reading this short story. Loved it!
That was.. different. I wouldn't exactly say I liked it, but it was entertaining, very short, and free. While the two innuendos might go over the heads of young readers, those lines would make me feel uncomfortable recommending it to anyone under mid-teens or so.
short, with a cute twist at the end. thanks for the freebie, amazon!
Now THAT was funny!!!
A short retelling of the classic fairytale by the author of The Thirteenth Tale. It was an okay read.
I got this short story eBook, because it was free. I am glad I did not have to pay for it, and I wish I had not wasted my time reading it. If it were possible to do so, I would not have given it one star, but a zero.A feminist retelling of the classic fairy tale, this book talks about a royal family in search of a "real princess" to marry the prince. The parents rig up the bed with layers of feather mattresses piled on top of a single very hard dried pea. But, of course, dozens of legitimate pri...
It didn't pretend to be deep or gothic or intriguing. It said it was a Very Short Tale, and that's exactly what it was. Having read The Thirteenth Tale it kind of makes sense. I was expecting a dark twist, but oh well. It was still cute and sassy.
Short, but such a fun story! With a twist ending ;)
This was cute - a brief retelling of the old fairytale by a very gifted writer. A must for any fairytale devotee.
It was free, and I really liked The Thirteenth Tale, so why not?
