I just finished The Fire Witness and am not sure if I want to continue on with these authors. They write well and the story initially draws you in. However, the plot then gets sloppy and the end always feels rushed. This story is about a girl and woman murdered in a clinic for mentally unstable girls. Joona Linna comes in to save the day and is always, it seems, never wanted. Without giving away the ending, the plot gets twisted but you are led through side stories that dont add up and then when
Ignore this. The wrong title.
Love this series! I had already read The Hypnotist and The Nightmare, so I just read The Fire Witness. Waiting for Sandman to be translated to English.
Fantastic read.
Currently reading the fire witness
Really enjoying this series of books.
Just read The Fire Witness. Loved it. Fast paced, intriguing such a great crime writing duo.
Read 2 out of 3 of these books. The Fire Witness is the one I just read.
We’ll what can I say ?? They just get better and better ! I liked the hypnotist, a good read , struggled with the nightmare but read it and was ok in the end but the fire witness was AMAZING great book and can’t wait to read sandman now ! Fabulous writers they just want you to read more ! I’m hooked , just brilliant.
It is only book 3 The Fire Witness I am reviewing, It is excellent as ususal, gripping, always something happening, I am glad we finally learned a bit more about Joona's past. The books are getting better and better.
I've read all three books and loved them all! Captivating right from the beginning. Just got the Sandman and I will be reading it shortly!
These books are excellent and in the taut suspenseful tradition of the best of the Scandinavian authors. A serious must read.
Each book gets better. Lars Keplar knows how to draw a reader in. Can be quite wicked in parts but not put me off. Started The Sandman today .
I read The Hypnotist and The Fire Witness. My library did not have The Nightmare. I like the lead detective. The Fire Witness left you wanting to discover more about him. In general, I like the Scandinavian authors.
All three books are very different types of “keep you on the edge of your seat” thrillers. Fast paced with twists and turns all the way to the end. Often, just when you think someone is safe, they are definitely not. I am absolutely going to continue this series. Joona Linna is a smart, relentless protagonist with a past that is hinted at but never quite explained until the end of the third book.
Just completed The fire Witness. I am not reading their books in sequence. I wish I had realized this sooner.Still really enjoying. Fire Witness filled in story of his wife and daughter from The Sandman.
The first novel was fabulous, and while I did read all three, they lose their steam at about halfway through #2.
The Fire WitnessLars Kepler is the pseudonym adopted by Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril, two Swedish mystery writers. They are the authors of, so far, five mysteries, featuring Finnish-Swedish Joona Linna of the National Police. Linna, like most Scandinavian protagonist detectives, is dour, reclusive and secretive. Near the end of “The Fire Witness” we discover some of the reasons he acts as he does. Kepler’s structure here is terse: short chapters, short sentences, spare atmosp...
Having read a Joona Linna story a while ago, I was excited to delve further into his world, so invested in this omnibus of 3 novels. "The Nightmare" - the 2nd story - was so twisted and violent that it still gives me the chills every time I think of it even 6 months later! It was well-written, but just told an awful story about truly terrible people and their hideous crimes. "The Hypnotist" and "The Fire Witness" were also extremely well-written, but didn't leave me with nightmares. Joona Linna,...
