The Childe lives in a small house in Hale and he is so tall that his feet dangle out of the windows. One day the king pays the village a visit to offer the giant riches if he will come back with him to London. The Childe goes with him and glories in his new status and clothes. However the King has plans for the Childe and sets him up to fight The Bear. Although victorious the Childe realises he has been used and that he would have done better to stay poor and live with his friends in Hale.
