I really love Clark's older books, which were suspenseful psychological thrillers. I also like the fact that her murderers are always people with deep psychological disorders. Her later books concentrated on normal people but that didn't work for me.In this book is a creepy serial killer, who meets women through personal ads kills them and puts dancing shoes on their feet before abandoning them where they could be found. A man who starts this spree when a woman rejects him, a very entitled man.
Just so you know -because it's probably the most important thing you're going to ever learn about me- I learnt english with Mary Higgins Clark's books.I was probably fourteen, in Boston, bored as fuck because my english was so bad i couldn't even comprehend myself and i had nothing left to read. As a reclusive moody teen, it was very similar to dying and my only solution was to take a paperback and brave the unknown. That year, I read every Mary Higgins Clark's books already published. And we can
“Funny, when you finally faced reality, it was amazing how clearly you could see things.” ― Mary Higgins Clark, Loves Music, Loves to DanceAnyone remember newspaper personal adds?Yeah they are all but gone now as the internet continues to take over our lives. but once upon a time, they did exist and in "Loves Music, Loves to dance" there's a serial killer lose preying on women who use personal adds. What a mystery! While some may find it dated, I still love this book and read it every so often. I...
If I could, I'd give this a zero. I can't believe she sells. This is the modern-day crap I speak of in my reviws . . . ten fold. Her plots broadcast, the're derived, boring, predictable, stupid, silly, staid . . . I don't have a big enough vocabulary to describe how bad she is. Only read this because it was required for a Lit. class I was teaching at a college that, like a high school, required certian books. I don't teach there any more. Goes without saying. One faculty member even refused to r...
Needed a quick easy read for the plane ride...we'll see if i regret my choice......Meh. It was an ok book I guess. A few things bothered me about it. I really don't need to know, in detail, what each character is wearing in EVERY scene. I don't care that one guy in this paragraph is wearing dark courdory pants with a white button shirt and a smart jacket. Or that another character went home and changed from a red sweater blouse into jeans and a yellow t-shirt. It's not integral to the plot, and
u already know this the queen of suspense the best of my time she started it all love this lady i salute u mrs mary higgins clark!
Oh wow, that was boring... Flat style, flat characters, no pizzazz at all.
Added 7/19/15.This mystery started out fine but it got impossible to follow after too many characters were introduced. It was ridiculous! I bailed out after reading half of the story.A GR reviewer wrote:=================================="There are too many characters in this story and some of them had no big impact to the plot that it is obvious they were thrown in the story to be red hearings [sic]. And, because of this, whenever they came up in the novel it was like 'Who cares?' ... Too many c...
Re-read and it brought me back to my VERY early teens when I was a HUGE fan. I loved everything Mary Higgins Clark wrote.
This is the second Mary Higgins Clark novel I read after a long hiatus of her novels, and I have to say my expectations for this novel were high. It sounded interesting, and when my sister was reading it, she gave it high marks (so did the reviews I read prior to reading this novel). However, when I finally got around to reading it, my sister couldn’t remember much of the story or any of the characters. That should have told me that my expectations for this novel were too high. And, they were. T...
To say that Mary Higgins Clark is a genius at what she does would be a huge understatement. Nonetheless, this novel proves that there is no one better than her at thrillers and suspense novels than her and here is why:Loves Music, Loves to Dance was published in 1991 and it proved to be one of the biggest bestsellers of that year. It was later turned into a very unsuccessful film but that mattered very little, the novel still sells well and it is a fan favourite amongst the readers. In fact, acc...
Catching up once again on a book I inherited from my mom. This one is a suspense thriller in the mold of most of what Mary Higgins Clark has written and was first published in 1991, making it one of the earlier of her suspense novels. The plot surrounds Darcy and Erin, a couple of 20-something ladies who decide to add more fun to their dating lives by answering personal ads from eligible men. However, Erin goes missing and her body is later found dead, wearing one of her regular shoes and one ver...
I picked up this book on a whim at a restaurant selling used books for charity. Loves Music, Loves to Dance is my fourth Mary Higgins Clark novel and 100 pages into the story, I had a sense that if you've read one Higgins Clark, you've read them all. That is not to say that it doesn't have any redeeming qualities. The fast paced story line will grip anyone who's a newcomer to her novels. However, I've rated it one star for predictability. The psychopathic serial killer possibly suffering from sp...
Not my favorite MHC novel but it's special because a dear friend gave me my copy haha
This is one of the creepier books that I have read. I picked it up off a pile of books my grandmother was giving to us and low-and-behold was this catching, poetic title. It was too disturbing the first time I tried so I put it on my shelf and waited about a year. After all that time It still was bugging me that I didn't know what was to happen. So I picked it up, read it again. And I absulutely loved it. It was a great plot and it had a satisfactoringly twisted murderer. It had so much emotion
When I was in middle school, Mary Higgins Clark was my favorite author besides, perhaps, K. A. Applegate. I loved her stuff, and even embarked on writing a novel of my own that is in many ways like this book (I have no idea where the manuscript is and I hope no one ever sees it, as it is awful in the special way that first book attempts are). The thing about MHC is that her stuff is absolutely workable in a formulaic format; yes, you always suspect everyone because you know there is a deep love
Really enjoyed this novel. Mary Higgins Clark's story about the Slipper Killer was exciting, at times eerie and scary! The character Darcy was strong and determined and added so much to the plot of the book.I never guessed the killer, so was astounded to discover who it was, especially as there were a few possibles!
Wow! what an awesome book. read the whole thing in a day and a half. This book is intense for beginning to ende. Just when you think you have it figured out, another character or angle comes into play. My heart was actually pounding in my chest at one point(ok, at a few points) Readers of this genre like to be kept on edge and Clark does not disappoint. Highly recommend to all suspense lovers. You will not be let down
In Mary Higgins Clark's Loves Music, Loves to Dance, a serial killer trolls the personal ads in trendy magazines. After college, tow best friends venture out in Manhattan. Erin Kelly was a promising jewelry designer and Darcy Scott was a decorator. On a lark, Darcy persuaded a TV producer to do a scoop about research on people who did personal ads. When Erin disappeared and later was found in killed with one missing shoe and wore one dancing shoe, it was up to Darcy to entire the killer out in t...
A great little suspense mystery. Two women are working on a documentary , on people who place personal ads, finding the right one or exposing a serial killer.
