Stefan Foconi's brother got murdered. His novel is a fictitious study of what lead to his murder. The story is devided in three parts showing different perspectives. The first one is the murderer's view. The murder has not been solved, but the brother's female partner was the primary suspect and the author believes she was the one who did it. The second part of the book gives voice to several persons who knew the couple in question. In the final part a character representing the author has a discussion with the dead brother.
