From the shocking Psychospectre of Urania 458 to the more recent and sinister Lever of Archimedes, the vein of novels by L. P. Davies takes place against a background of modest and apparently quiet English province. We are not in the Year 3500 of the Galactic Era and not even only in 1990. We are today, among characters who look much more like those of an Agatha Christie mystery than those of the traditional SF. The only difference is that here no crime appears to have been committed. Davies si svolge su uno sfondo di modesta e apparentemente tranquilla provincia inglese. Non siamo nell'Anno 3500 dell'Era Galattica e neppure soltanto nel 1990. Siamo al giorno d'oggi, tra personaggi che assomigliano molto di più a quelli di un mistery di Agatha Christie che a quelli della FS tradizionale La sola differenza è che qui non sembra sia stato commesso alcun delitto. A meno che sia un delitto avere nelle vene invece del sangue una sostanza sconosciuta...
