Love Throws Dominoes

Love Throws Dominoes

B.J. Thornton
0/5 ( ratings)
Makeda Solomon is fed up with her rude roommate. In fact, she is fed up with her life.

A Southern girl trying to escape the cramped expectations of childhood, she moved to New York to find a springboard for her dreams. She longs to turn her design skills into an art career, and finally meet a guy who believes that gentle belongs with man. Instead, she feels trapped at a corporate job she calls the slave ship, and only has one relationship worth mentioning in Nichole Lennox, an aspiring actress with a cutting tongue as jagged as a concealed scar on her arm.

Scrappy Nichole steals an apartment lead from a foxy guy at a bar, right when Makeda’s roommate pushes her too far. Serendipity comes with a beautiful new place in Chelsea, throwing both girls into close contact with the apartment’s attractive occupants. Nichole again tangles with the guy, who turns out to be bar owner and wealthy New Yorker Wolf Earnshaw. Meanwhile Makeda swoons over charming new roommate Feroze Aghazadeh, a struggling young lawyer with modern tastes and old school ways.

Feroze too is fed up with his flighty Dutch mother, his overbearing Iranian father, and his spirited little sister. The oldest child of an immigrant family, he doesn’t know what he wants from life except not to make the same mistakes that ended his parents’ marriage and forced his father to start from scratch in the U.S.

After his sister’s vacation abroad detours to a volatile political situation that makes communication difficult, Makeda puts her skills to work to keep the Aghazadeh family in touch. The gesture endears her to Feroze, who returns the favor when Makeda loses her childhood home to a natural disaster. Emotional intimacy pushes them over the line of being roommates and into romance.

Domino after domino, they fall for each other through little acts of caring. Uncharacteristically bold moves bring Makeda her ultimate dream of attending art school in London, but also lead Feroze to give her all the right reasons to stay in New York, at the wrong time.

Set in 2009 during the Iran election protests and the Atlanta floods, this novel is based on true events in the life of the author’s friend.

Love Throws Dominoes is the story of a young woman who has been waiting a long time for something amazing–and she becomes that something.
