Andrew Bennet is dead, Cain, primordial vampire is free, and Mary, Queen of Blood is out of a job. She’s forced to ally herself with, in her own words, “mystical morons”, including John Constantine and Zatanna. Madame Xanadu has gathered a group together and plans to raise from the dead Andrew Bennett to fight Cain and his army. Alas, the best plans of mages and mystics have a way of going spectacularly pear-shaped. Parts of the story were missing, which was disappointing. Cain was also a bit di...
Well, that all took an even darker turn than expected. The Justice League Dark issues were fine-ish. They provide some story context, but don't hold up in quality compared to Fialkov and Sorrentino's work.In the aftermath of volume one, shifting alliances and a desperate fight for survival change all the rules for vampires, humans, and heroes alike. But as enemies are overcome and more rise to take their place, the struggle for balance may have consequences no one anticipates. Power can save, but...
QUALITY OF ART (Out of 10) 10 when Andrea Sorrentino is supplying the ArtQUALITY OF DIALOGUE (Out of 10) 7- The dialogue is just a notch above generic. There is one major aspect of this story, the idea of the pacifist leader, trying to run a group of killing machines, and keeping them in order. I have never really liked that particular story arc, and it usually finds its way into every major franchise, the story of the good guy trying to lead a group of bad guys in the right direction. It always...
Magic has never really done it for me and it seems there is more magic here than there are vampires. And too many deus ex machina moments with little to no logic. The extra teams brought in to help didn't help the story too much, just made it overly complicated for the two or three characters that were indeed able to carry the, arguably, awesome battle forward. Still, I'm not a fan of vampires.(view spoiler)[ Or zombies. (hide spoiler)]With Andrew's death, Cain has awoken and he is syphoning the...
I have always been a fan of vampires (not the Twilight kind). So I was excited when I picked this volume up. The cover rocked and when I casually flipped through the comic I liked the quality of the art. So I bought it. Meh. I should have taken a pass or found this in my library. Cool concept-mediocre story. Apparently the Justice League Dark is looking for a good vampire named Andrew Bennett. As Constantine and Deadman go looking, the rest of the League must deal with Cain. Cain is a primordial...
All I have to say is when Buffy's significant other turned into an evil vampire and started killing people she /immediately/ killed him.I am not impressed with this series.
Such an improvement from the last volume! I was really disappointed with the first issue of this series. I decided to keep reading it simply because I saw it had potential. This volume proves that it had more in it. Both the story and the characters had a drastic quality jump. I had just read JL Dark volume 1 so this took off right where that ended. The crossover worked really well and added a spark to the story, which was lacking something before. I didn't realise there was a Stormwatch crossov...
The Stormwatch characters were a welcome surprise... Otherwise unimpressed.
In which I still don't care and am still only reading this because of the JLD tie-ins and also because I know there's only one more volume after this. It's just boring and cliched and I literally don't care about a single one of the characters. The art is pretty nice though so at least there's that.
Huh. Surprisingly improved a bit.It only sort of feels like I'm slogging through this now.
This volume includes a couple issues of Justice League Dark. On the one hand it is good as the story would be incomplete without them, but on the other people unfamiliar with that comic will be wondering who these characters are and what they are doing in I, Vampire. Tig and her desire to just kill all the vampires continues to be the best part of this comic. I like the Van Helsings. I've never seen them in any other DC comic so I'm guessing this is the their entire story. I'll read the final vo...
I was a bit disappointed by volume 2 of "I,Vampire". The first volume was very atmospheric and dark, the writing was beautiful and the story compelling. In the second volume, all we see for the most part is a parade of various DC superheroes and very few of the elements which made me love the first installment of the story. I felt cheated, as a reader, for having spent money in something that did not begin as a superhero comic but ended up being all about superheroes.
This picks up after volume 1 and crosses over with Justice League Dark.I liked it. Constantine and Deadman go after Andrew in some sort of afterlife, but he's unwilling to leave at first. However, once he realizes the world's populating of vampires is raging and under the control of Cain, (the first vampire) he drags his ass back to the land of the living. Andrew's ex and now 2nd most evil vampire, Mary, is running with Cain and quickly sees that being under new management may not have as many p...
Oh man, don't have anything to say but: frakking awesomeness!!And I'm straight diving into the next issue... Can't wait to see what happns next![image error]
I can see why this book was cancelled. I mean it's neat, but there's not much really going for it except the two significant twists at the end of each book. Interestingly, this also includes two issues of Justice League Dark which tie into the rise of the vampires arc. There's just nothing overwhelmingly good about this. Characters' motives are thin at best and most of the time purely scripted. JLD doesn't fare any better than the actual I, Vampire books. I still don't get why anyone has any lev...
How can a vampire insurrection get any worse? Add zombies to the equation. I like vampire fiction. Zombie fiction? Not so much. Well, it depends on how it's done. This, well it was creepy and exciting and freaky. Add in some fundamentalist vampire hunters, then it's a party. On the downside, the Gothic atmosphere I enjoyed so much in the first book isn't as evident. I missed it. On the good side, lots of action and some serious plot twists. Enemies become friends and friends become enemies. And
While I was initially skeptical of a vampire book as part of DC's New 52 initiative, the first volume of "I, Vampire" established a unique series that wasn't really anything that could be considered cashing in on the phenomenon. The inclusion of Peter Milligan's "Justice League Dark" doesn't do much for this volume, but the rest of the volume makes up for it with Fialkov's well-crafted stakes and escalation. Though the Andrew Barrett character looks a little purposefully cool and hip, having a n...
Other people have complained about the lack of character development and less subtlety of this volume. Since there are only 3 volumes, this makes sense as being the Act 2 of a story. It's action, it's cameos, it's not deep. Hopefully volume 3 will back up my assessment though. We'll see...
This was a good series, why did no one read it?
I, Vampire's second volume succumbs to trying to add established characters and in doing so, it subtracts from what made the first volume so good. While I agree that the worlds of Andrew Bennett and Justice League Dark are overlapping, its so early in the series to make The JLD team so integral. I thought the art was great and then the back half of the book involving some legendary antagonists were very good but the overall book suffered from having to rely on guest stars, which they didn't need...
