There he meets Gemma, the seemingly innocent little daughter of an old love. She is only eight years old, but after watching both her grandfathers die from lung cancer, she has developed a deep hatred for the substance that caused their demise. She then uses unrealized powers, inherited from her unexplainable ancestors, the Melungeons, to wreak havoc on the local tobacco industry and its promoters. J.J.
