When Francine County, Texas Sheriff Jubal Dark captured fugitive murderer, Carl Spence, the Sheriff made it clear to everyone that Spence was a nothing more than worthless coward. For that insult Spence vowed revenge.

Four years later, when Spence and two other murderers escaped from prison, they unsuccessfully attacked the sheriff and, in the process of stealing a car and making their getaway, murdered an entire local family. Now, Spence and the two other killers are racing across Texas, trying to get across the border before Sheriff Dark can track them down. They don't have to remain free for long.

Dark is up for re-election and in a few days his failure to solve the two-year-old rape and murder of a local girl seems likely to guarantee his defeat. But Jubal Dark doesn't have the time or the energy to think about the election. All his attention is focused on getting the fugitives and Dark is willing to trade his badge, and even his life, if that's what it will take to bring these killers to Texas Justice.
