OK a couple of stories were alright but mostly it was very graphic and very gross. I guess I should have expected that but I will now pass this book onto someone I'm sure will enjoy it, someone who is into graphic gore...my husband :)
Pretty good, but somewhat unbalanced in quality, I think. Favorites included stories by Jack Ketchum, myself (of course), Joe Lansdale, Marie Green, and Lee Thomas.
Really mixed feelings on this. Some of these were great, funny or poignant; some had some awful dialogue and unbelievable characters; most made me want to vomit a little. It’s worth a read if you have a stomach for it, but for my taste I should have spread it out more.
A real mixed bag. Some of the stories are excellent, some are misses for me. There are quite a few that feature sexual violence, so if that's a turn-off for you, you probably won't enjoy this collection. But I did love that it went all around the year, claiming even really obscure holidays and doing interesting things with them.
Eh... I'm not a fan of short stories. I do like gross-out horror. This book's stories were ok, some were pretty good, even. 3 stars isn't a bad review. Read it for what it is.
Uneven but highly entertaining compilation of stories that relate to various holidays. Nothing here stood out as great, but the stories were solid, and a nice themed anthology was produced.
Overall, I wanted to rate this anthology 2 Stars but the stories that were really good, were REALLY GOOD. Of course, one of my personal favorites was Wrath James White's "Pascal's Wager" - but that will come as a surprise to no one since I do love him.
Kind of a mixed bag of short stories - I have to admit, reading during December I was hoping for more Christmas related stories, I should have researched it before impulse buying Damnit! Some pretty good stories, some kind of eh and a few standouts. Face by Patrick Shand thought was pretty damn creepy. Enjoyed Ghunt by Lee Thomas, loved Taco Meat by John McNee, Lee Thompson & Bentley Little were pretty good as well. Worth checking out.
Entertaining collection of short horror stories.
Wow, pleasantly disturbing. I love reading these horror shorts in between novels sometimes, and this compilation certainly doesn't disappoint. Obviously not for the faint of heart, or weak of stomach, almost every one of these stories delivers a perfect combo of shock, gore, and chills. I liked it.
Great anthology, I thought all the stories were going to be Christmas based but the common theme is ANY holiday. Be warned - some of these are pretty gruesome, all of them were good to great. Usually there are at least a couple of stories I don't care for in an anthology (only natural with so many different writing styles) but not this time.A nice little antidote to holiday sweetness overload.
Some entertaining holiday stories here.
Quite a lovely little holiday book *smirk* Read it!
I finally got this one re-read & re-reviewed! I was so upset when the first 2 were lost - along with all my notes :'(So... check out the new review on BBB! http://beckisbookblog.wordpress.com/2...
I'm totally in this shit, yo.
Good collection of short horror stories with bite. This is not a collection for everyone as I would place it in the extreme horror category and these are bloody, twisted tales and punches aren't pulled in getting the reader to squirm.
Wow, this is one hell of a fun horror collection! I took my time reading the stories, as I generally can't focus on short stories if I read more than a couple at a time. This collection was very impressive. Typically, a horror anthology has a couple big name writers, some up and comers, and some unheard of talent: and the stories range from outstanding to just horrible. This book had the typical cast of authors, however, there really weren't any stories I disliked. I can definitely say that for
