Excellent collection of stories from several talented crime writers, all of which, I believe, were read by the authors at a event at a bar in St. Louis. Worth buying if you are a fan of the hard-boiled style. Also the proceeds of the $12 book go to support an independent bookstore in St. Louis.
Disclosure: I know in real life and am a huge fan of both Jed Ayres and Scott Phillips and I think the Noir at the Bar events are fantastic. Further, this collection's purpose (to aid the ailing Subterranean Books on the Delmar Loop) is totally awesome and worthy of your admiration.HOWEVER: The collection overall is spotty. The intro and blurbs and design (which is important to a collection of short fiction, sorry haters) is outstanding and sets an excellent tone for the writing within, but the
Collection of shorts not to be missed. You must order it directly from Suberranean Books

An exceptional collection of noir.I was so excited about this book when I found out about it--so many of my favorite authors all in one book! I went to the Subterranean Books website and ordered volumes one and two but they later sent me an email saying the first book has sold out. At least I still have volume two but I am pretty devastated I missed this one.
A bunch of badass stories from some badass writers who certainly impressed the hell out of me. So glad Mr. Ayres slipped me a copy of this one while I was making my way across a hotel lobby. And that the proceeds all go toward supporting a local bookstore, Subterranean Books, in St. Louis makes this collection all the more worthwhile. Wish I lived in St Louis just so I could have a drink with these guys.
Birthed in the mean streets of Philly, escaped to the back alleys of St. Louis, recently spread to the dark side of the City of Angels, there’s a disturbing phenomenon that threatens to expand to even more unwitting cities in the future. It is… Noir at the Bar.For those unfamiliar with the concept, a Noir at the Bar ceremony consists of a tribe of crime fiction aficionados, writers and readers alike, gathering together to partake of booze and listen to sensual and sinister original works read al...
