David Breuer-Weil Radical Visionary

David Breuer-Weil Radical Visionary

Monica Bohm-Duchen
0/5 ( ratings)
This is the first complete monograph devoted to the work of one of Britain’s most powerful and original contemporary artists.  Painting, drawings, and sculptures are illustrated by selected quotations from the artist and the writings include an introduction by Ben Hanly, an essay by Monica Bohm-Duchen, an essay by Suzie Stanton Staikos, and an interview by James Hyman. The introductory essay contains texts by John Russell Taylor and Richard Aronowicz.  Also included are a complete biography and bibliography.
David Breuer-Weil was born in London in 1965.  He went to Clare College, Cambridge University where he soon became involved with fringe theatrical and artistic groups. After Cambridge he was awarded a bursary at Sotheby's and he spent the next few years training in different artistic departments and disciplines, starting with Old Master Paintings and ending in the Impressionist and Modern Art Department. The years he spent in direct physical contact with works by the masters of the past enhanced his knowledge of both technique and his own artistic direction.  During this period he combined working for an auction house with his own artistic practice.  Over the next few years he created a large body of small-scale "Neracian" works on paper, many of these were so small that they are stored in stamp albums.  It was also during this period that he developed the personal iconography that would culminate in the Project some years later.  The Project has been developed over many years and has been realized in 4 series of paintings.  Project 4 has just recently been completed and has not yet been exhibited.  Breuer-Weil has also recently returned to sculpture, producing and exhibiting new work to critical acclaim.
